THE MATRIX UNRAVELED
Far more impressive than “The Amazing SpiderMan“, the effect brought about by Ayahuasca can accurately be described as amazing (A-MAZE: The elated sensation experienced by getting out of a maze or labyrinth). By definition a maze is a place of utter confussion, and we´re often unaware of the confusion we live in and how deeply it affects us.
At the Ayahuasca International retreats we often hear people describing their experience as amazing, yet the meaning given to this word is almost opposite to its true orginal meaning. They often mean that the experience was overwhelming and that it provided them with a break from the frustratinlgy limiting “everyday´s normal perception“ of the world and its reality. In that way they unwillingly regard ayahuasca as a hallucinatory drug that has distorted their perception of reality.
Ayahuasca isn´t an hallucinogen but an entheogen, a substance that has the capacity to produce a temporary expansion of consciousness. Through an expanded consciousness we perceive “more“ reality that we normally do, and because it looks different to our regular perceptions it appears to be distorted, which is like considering that taking ayahuasca is producing a particular extraordinary effect.
The actual fact is that we live in a dreamlike state of consciousness, which means that day and night we experience a permanent delusory “effect“ as it was clearly shown in the movie “The Matrix“. The hindu tradition gives the name Maya to this psychologic phenomena, and meditation is a powerful technique devised to develop the ability to perceive beyond Maya and to eventually become free from it.
It could be rightfully claimed that Ayahuasca hasn´t an actual effect of us but that it provides us with an opportunity to have a temporary clear perception of the permantent effect we live in and that we have come to regard as normal.
The insights that take place in that period can produce great benefits in our regular lives. The very effective psychotherapeutic tools used in the Ayashuasca International retreats are of great help for this purpose.
